Two teams from Chalmers and University of Gothenburg participated in the self-driving miniature vehicles student competition “CaroloCup” in Braunschweig, Germany for the second time in a row. This year, 16 teams have participated in the annual event for students with the goal of developing self-driving vehicles in 1:10 scale that are able to follow lane markings, handle intersections safely, overtake stationary and moving obstacles, and to park on a sideways parking strip.

Both teams competed for the first time in the advanced version of the CaroloCup competition with teams who participated already since the introduction of the event in 2008. Comparable to previous years, the favorite teams could successfully defend the upper ranks in this highly competitive version, but from all seven newcomer teams, both Swedish teams “Legendary” and “Tetrix” are among the top three newcomers.

Both teams consisted of students from Software Engineering, the Software Engineering & Management, the Signals and Systems, and the Computer Systems and Networks program and were supervised by Christian Berger from Software Engineering Division and Olaf Landsiedel from Division of Networks and Systems. Our three sponsors HiQ AB, Delphi, and XCube Communication from Gothenburg supported the team so that the students could participate in the competition in Germany.
